Things to do in Stockbridge
Stockbridge itself is a tiny, pretty town on the River Test, and offers plenty of independent shops and interesting nooks to explore. The old St Peter’s Church, built in the 12th century, has a series of restored murals on display, one of which dates back to 1588. We’re also less than 20 minutes’ drive away from Winchester, a historic city with lots to see and do.
Closer to home, a five-minute drive from The White Hart will take you to Spitfire Shoot, for clay-pigeon shooting. Sharpen your skills, or learn something new from the centre’s expert instructors. Longstock Park Water Garden is also within easy reach of the hotel, and has beautiful pools and walkways for peaceful roaming in season, when the garden opens on Sundays.
Stockbridge is situated on the River Test, which is the country’s best trout-fishing river and perhaps the most famous spot for fly-fishing in the country.
The White Hart is perfectly located for cyclists on the King Alfred’s Way cycling route a 350km loop around Wessex, the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Alfred the Great. We also have secure bike storage so that you can sleep in peace, knowing your bike is in safe hands.
The White Hart is also under 15 minutes’ drive from the adrenaline rush offered at Treerunners. This adventurous course challenges you to use zip lines, snowboards and Tarzan swings to move yourself from tree to tree, in the midsts of an oak forest. A fantastic rush, it’s also a great way to work up an appetite for dinner and a drink back at the hotel...
